Register Your Neighborhood’s National Night Out Event
Islanders Will Celebrate on Tuesday October 4
Galveston, TX – Neighborhoods across Galveston Island are making their annual plans to celebrate National Night Out. Organized by the Galveston Police Department, National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, October 4. This national event brings neighbors together to effectively identify and fight crime. Neighborhoods can register their event by contacting Galveston Police Sgt. Destin Sims, 409-765-3606 or dsims@cityofgalveston.org.
How a neighborhood celebrates is entirely up to the residents who live there. Festivities can range from something as simple as popsicles for the kids to a full-blown potluck dinner. Many Galveston neighborhoods are planning to host block parties and cookouts, hold contests, and organize children’s activities.
Now in its 28th year, National Night Out was originally organized to (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
