Jim Guidry Commentaries
State of Texas
Texas State Representative James White
News Release
Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Austin, Texas - On September 14, 2011, Governor Rick Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, and Speaker Joe Straus announced they would allow for the expedited distribution of the $27 million dollars allocated by the 82nd Legislature to the Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program (VDAP), plus an extra $5 million dollars for Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) expenses not usually covered by VDAP.

The funding can be used for expenses that the fire department may encounter including fuel, tires, hoses, supplies, critical firefighting equipment and clothing, and necessary repairs to existing equipment.

The state will enact screening procedures and criteria to determine which areas were most affected by the wild fires, so they can distribute funding to those areas according to need.

The state is ready to identify additional resources for the Texas Forrest Service if you inform them of additional needs in East Texas.

"I would like to thank all of the Volunteer and Professional Fire Fighters in East Texas and all around the state that have so tirelessly fought to save our state from these destructive wild fires. I appreciate the sacrifice that you and your families make to keep our communities safe. Your efforts are highly appreciated. Please inform my office if there is anything we can do to help you procure this funding." State Representative James White (Hillister.)
