Johnson Receives Certification

Sandra Johnson, Galveston College Instructor of Mathematics, was recently certified as a “Developmental Education Specialist” through the Kellogg Institute at Appalachian State University. Johnson was selected to attend the four-week training program consisting of seminars on topics such as Assessment and Placement for Developmental Educators, Designing Learning Environments, Student Support systems, and Outcomes Assessment and Program Evaluation. Following the summer training program, participants returned to their home campuses to implement a program development project based upon information gained during the seminars.

Johnson’s report on her program was cited by her advisor as being an outstanding effort. Her practicum has been placed in the resource library at the Kellogg Institute for use by other participants. The Galveston College Title V grant provided support for Johnson’s accomplishments in Developmental Education.
