Galveston College Receives Small Business Grant

Galveston College has been notified by the Texas Workforce Commission that its application has been approved for a Skills for Small Business Program Grant. The amount of the award is $50,000 for the grant period beginning August 26, 2011, through June 30, 2012.

The Skills for Small Business Program will provide training for small private businesses in the local area. Each participating business partner will select training courses for its new and\or existing employees that will contribute to the enhancement of the business' operations. The program will cover tuition and fee costs for a new employee and up to $725 and a 12 month period for an existing employee.

The Board of Regents of the Galveston Community College District approved acceptance of the grant at their September 14, 2011 regular meeting.
