Community Plan to be Group’s Topic
Service providers in the areas of criminal justice, juvenile justice and victim assistance are invited to attend a meeting of the Galveston County Community Planning Group.
The meeting is to discuss revisions to the Community Plan, a tool for obtaining grants to solve community problems in Galveston County.
The Community Plan is a requirement of the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office, which disburses millions of dollars worth of grant funds from a variety of sources each year.
Funds are distributed only to organizations that intend to address local problems spelled out in the Community Plan.
Community plans must be updated each year to ensure that they continue to reflect the area’s most significant criminal justice needs.
The Sept. 28 meeting is the first of several scheduled through November.
Government and private, nonprofit service providers who receive or hope to receive funds from the following grant programs in 2012 should attend the September 28, 2011 session: Victims of Crime Act, Juvenile Accountability Block Grant, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities, Texas Criminal Justice Planning (“421”) Fund, Violence Against Women Act, Byrne Formula Grant Program and Crime Stoppers.
More information about Criminal Justice Division grants is available at the division’s Web site, www.governor.state.tx.us/divisions/cjd/.
