Clear Creek ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, September 27, 2011

The Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday voted unanimously to adopt a 2011 tax rate of $1.36 per $100 valuation.

The tax rate includes $1.04 per $100 valuation designated for maintenance and operation of the school district, with the remaining $0.32 designated for payments on the district’s bond issues.

The 2011 tax rate does not exceed the effective rate, which is $1.3693 per $100 valuation.  Adoption of a rate exceeding the effective rate, or the property tax levy needed to draw revenues equal to the previous year, requires public hearings prior to adoption of the rate.

The school board voted to nominate Gary Jones, David Moss, Victor Pierson, Walt Syers and Emery Williams, II for re-election to the Galveston Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.  The board will cast votes for election of the members at a later date.

The school board voted to submit a class size waiver to the Texas Education Agency.  The waiver is required if surveys indicate any classes in Kindergarten through fourth grade exceed the allowable class size limit of 22 students per teacher.

The waivers will be requested for classes at several schools.

The school board voted to renew a contract with Mooring Recovery Services as primary vendor and Dura Pier Facilities Services, Ltd. as secondary vendor for disaster recovery services.  The contract’s value is not to exceed $750,000 on an as-needed basis.

"In the event of an emergency or disaster, such as a flood, fire, or hurricane, the contractors can mobilize quickly with an understanding of our facilities and protocols,” Superintendent Dr. Greg Smith said.  “Pricing will be based on established unit cost pricing with an agreed-upon scope of work on an as-needed basis."

All items were approved.  All votes were unanimous with trustees Win Weber and Bob Davee absent.  Agenda
