New DPS Regional Commander Selected

 

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Director Steven C. McCraw has announced the appointment of Gary Albus as the Regional Commander for DPS Region 6. In this position, he will oversee both law enforcement operations and service functions in the region, which is headquartered in San Antonio and encompasses the Austin, Waco and Victoria areas, as well as a portion of the Texas coast.

 

“I am excited to work with our outstanding DPS personnel in Region 6 as we protect and serve Texas,” said Commander Albus.

 

Albus had most recently served as Texas Highway Patrol Major in Lubbock since 2010. He graduated from the DPS Training Academy in 1979, and served as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper in Odessa before transferring to the License and Weight Service in 1987. He promoted to Sergeant in 1993 stationed in Lubbock; Lieutenant in 1995 with stops in Corpus Christi and Lubbock; and Captain in 2002 with stops in El Paso and Lubbock.

 

Albus is a graduate of the Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command.
