Galveston College Receives Upward Bound Grant
Galveston College has received its fourth year of funding. The grant award amount is $242,250 for the Upward Bound grant. This grant provides funding to assist ninth through twelfth grade Ball High students who the potential first-generation college students in need of academic support and financial needs. The program provides academic instruction and tutoring, personal and academic advising, career information, access to cultural events, and visits to colleges and universities in an effort to improve these students' skills and prepare them for the transition from high school to college. The program has an academic year component and summer component. The funding will allow for services to be provided to 50 students from September 1, 2011, through August 31, 2011.
The Board of Regents of the Galveston Community College District approved acceptance of the grant at their September 14, 2011 regular meeting.
