Statement from Texas Motor Transportation Association President on Selection
of TxDOT Executive Director
AUSTIN
– Texas Motor Transportation Association President and CEO John D. Esparza released a statement today following the Texas Transportation Commission’s selection of Phil Wilson as the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Executive Director.
“Having had the privilege of working with Phil through the years, I feel energized for the agency and for this great state upon his selection,” Esparza stated. “This is an encouraging indication that TxDOT will continue to build on their reputation as a world-class organization.”
Wilson will serve as TxDOT’s 19th executive director, effective October 17, 2011. He currently serves as senior vice president of public affairs for Luminant in Dallas, and previously served as Texas Secretary of State. Prior to that, Wilson served on senior staff in the Governor’s Office.
“Phil brings a wealth of business experience to the department and a no-nonsense style that will be refreshing for an agency seeking strong leadership,” Esparza said. “He is a consummate professional and level headed problem solver that inspires confidence in those who work with him and across the table from him. This is a win for all Texans and a forward step for those of us in the transportation industry.”
