Galveston College Receives the Building Bridges Grant
For the 15th consecutive year, Galveston College will receive federal funds to continue the Building Bridges to Success program. The grant award for 2011-2012 is $238,774.
The program is funded by the U. S. Department of Education to provide intensive academic and student support services to currently enrolled students will represent first-generation, academically/economically disadvantage, or disabled populations.
The Building Bridges to Success (BBS) Program at Galveston College is a student support services/federal Trio program designed to help students overcome class, social, and academic and cultural barriers. Faculty and staff from the campus community and volunteers from the local community work collaboratively to implement activities that impact an increase of retention, graduation, and transfer rates.
The Board of Regents of the Galveston Community College District approved acceptance of the grant at their September 14, 2011 regular meeting.
