The United States Coast Guard on Monday awarded Steve Huffman, president of G&H Towing, a certificate of recognition for being the first company in the Houston-Galveston Captain of the Port zone to earn safety decals for 100 percent of their towing vessels.
Captain James Whitehead, commander of United States Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston, read a letter from Rear Admiral Roy A. Nash, who is Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District. Listen: MP3 RealPlayer
“Dear Mr. Huffman, I take great pleasure in recognizing your receipt of towing safety decals for 100 percent of your fleet of 31 vessels,” Admiral Nash said. “Your actions embody the intended cooperative spirit of the Coast Guard’s towing vessel bridging program.”
Captain Whitehead added his personal comments.
“I appreciate everything for our towing and vessel inspectors,” Whitehead said. “I know it’s been a great big help to get on board all these vessels; and I think hopefully, you have learned as much as we have learned.”
Huffman said he appreciated the recognition.
“We appreciate all that the Coast Guard does,” Huffman said. “It’s been a pleasure to have your people on board to see what we do, up and down the Houston Ship Channel in Galveston, and the rest of the ports we serve.”
G&H operates towing vessels throughout the ports of Houston, Galveston, Freeport and Corpus Christi.
