Galveston Celebrates National Night Out Tomorrow!
Islanders Will Celebrate on Tuesday October 4
Galveston, TX – Grab the lawn chairs and break out the potato salad recipes! Neighborhoods across Galveston Island are finalizing their plans for what will be one of the largest National Night Out celebrations in recent history. Organized by the Galveston Police Department, National Night Out will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4. This national event brings neighbors together to effectively identify and fight crime.
Now in its 28th year, National Night Out was originally organized to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
It’s not too late to participate! Neighborhoods can still register their event by contacting Galveston Police Sgt. Destin Sims, 409-765-3606 or dsims@cityofgalveston.org. Festivities can range from something as simple as popsicles for the kids to a full-blown potluck dinner. Many Galveston neighborhoods will host block parties and cookouts, hold contests, and offer fun children’s activities tomorrow evening.
The Galveston Police Department Marine Division is hosting their annual National Night Out celebration. They are sponsoring a block party and cookout for neighborhood residents at 5001 Avenue Q ½ (the old EMS Station) 6:00PM – 9:00PM. The division will provide and cook all of the meat and is encouraging residents to bring covered side dishes or dessert. To sign up, please contact Sgt. John Courtney by calling 409-765-3600.
