Rosemary Batiste,77, received her reward of eternal rest on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at UTMB Hospital.
Rosemary was born June 25, 1932, in St. Martinsville, LA, to the late Albert Durand ,Sr. and Beulah Carey Durand. A longtime resident of Galveston, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved caring for all of her grandchildren. She loved sewing and watching the Bobby Jones Gospel show on Sunday’s. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church and the Zeta Amicae Organization.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Batiste and a daughter, Carole Marie Batiste.
She leaves a legacy of love with her daughters: Claudia Batiste, Annette Dedmon (Willie), Jannie Batiste and Yvette Batiste (Tyrone); nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Norbert Durand (Anna) and Hildred Durand (Zenora); special friends: Jeanette Mitchell, Ethel Lee Walker; devoted sister in law; Mable McCorpen; devoted nieces: Theresa Callais and Ezora Durand; god-daughter: Norbert Marie Durand; a host of nephews, other nieces, relatives and friends.
Viewing will begin on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 9AM with a rosary at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father E.J. Stein celebrant. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
