News Release
Monday, October 10, 2011

Charges have been filed against a suspect in the death of a female found at 650 North Sam Houston Parkway East service road about 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 19.

The suspect, Daniel Dewayne Smith (b/m, DOB: 1-7-84), is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Korsica Shepherd, of Conroe, Texas.

A photo of suspect Smith, who is currently in federal custody on an unrelated charge, is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Carrillo and Senior Police Officer H. Chavez reported:

A security guard was patrolling the office building parking lot at the above location when he discovered Ms. Shepherd's body.  There were signs of trauma to Shepherd, who at that time, did not have identification on her.

Further investigation and witness statements later identified Smith as the suspect in this case.
