Ray Elementary named to TBEC Honor Roll
Lamar CISD’s Ray Elementary is a member of the 2011 Texas Business-Education Coalition Honor Roll, which recognizes campuses for sustained academic excellence. Schools must demonstrate three years of consistent high performance in all subjects compared to other schools serving similar student populations.
Ben Perez is the principal at Ray Elementary and Deana Gonzales is the assistant principal.
This year 253 schools made the list. This represents less than 4 percent of all public schools in Texas and includes 34 high schools, 38 middle schools and 181 elementary schools. Ray Elementary also made the Honor Roll in 2007.
TBEC will recognize all the Honor Roll Schools December 2, at an Awards Reception and Dinner in Dallas sponsored by HEB. TBEC will host a series of seminars where educators will have the opportunity to learn about some exciting new programs.
In analyzing every public school in Texas TBEC considers only the school’s commended performance, the state’s highest standard for academic achievement and sets specific targets for schools based on grades served and student demographics. In this, the last year for using the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) performance data, TBEC’s standards were the toughest in the 12 year history of the award.
