Construction Set to Begin on Louisiana Street Paving and Drainage Project October 24
The first phase of the Louisiana Street Paving and Drainage project is scheduled to begin October 24, 2011 and continue through May 2012. During this time, Louisiana Avenue from FM 518 to Webster Street will have one open lane to SOUTH BOUND TRAFFIC ONLY. Louisiana Street from Austin Street to Hewitt Street will also have one open lane to SOUTH BOUND TRAFFIC ONLY.
Connecting streets within this area will remain open, with the exception of periodic closures when the intersections are directly affected. Louisiana Avenue, from Webster Street to Austin Street, will not have any closures during this period.
These drainage and street improvements are a joint project of Galveston County and the City of League City. The project consists of improvements to Louisiana Avenue, from FM 518 to Hewitt Street. The improvements include replacement of the existing roadway with two new concrete lanes and a continuous left turn lane. It also includes the replacement of open ditch drainage with an underground storm sewer system, and the addition of sanitary sewer and water lines. Lastly, it will also include the realignment of Louisiana Avenue at FM 518 to avoid damages to the existing oak trees at that intersection.
The City understands the inconvenience this may cause residents, but asks that everyone please observe all traffic control signs and barricades, be patient with the work, and understand there will be travel delays.
If you have any questions or concerns, at this time or during the course of the construction, please contact City Engineer’s office at 281-554-1445.
