The Galveston College Board of Regents on Wednesday voted unanimously to accept a five-year, $4,019,068 Pathways Grant award.
The grant, which comes through the United States Department of Education, is offered to Hispanic-Service Institutions for expanding science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.
Under the grant, the college will receive $869,533 in the first year, and will utilize the grant funds to renovate its biology, chemistry, physics and computer science laboratories as well as build new labs for mathematics and other areas.
The college board tabled action on consideration of possibly moving the Board of Regents General Election from the May election date to November, beginning in 2012.
The college board voted unanimously to accept the retirement of nursing instructor Joan Mader.
The college board voted unanimously to name Brooks Catering as a vendor for general food services on the campus.
The college board voted unanimously to award a contract to Crescent Electric Company for electrical services.
