Harris County Has a Date with Disaster
Harris County, Texas – In its continuous efforts to promote preparedness, the Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) will host “Date with Disaster.”
The unique preparedness event takes place on Wednesday, October 26th, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gulf Point 30 AMC Theatres, 11801 S. Sam Houston Parkway.
“Harris County is committed to educating the residents and businesses in our area about the importance of disaster preparedness,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. “Keeping our community safe depends on the involvement of every individual.”
This event will showcase emergency preparedness like never before in Harris County. Attendees will view disaster preparedness videos in the comfort of a movie theatre and also interact with our region’s first responders. Emergency vehicles on hand will include Hazmat fire trucks, U.S. Coast Guard apparatus, an ambulance that accommodates 20 patients and a S.W.A.T. tank. The Ready Heroes will also entertain and educate the young and not so young.
In the last year, Harris County has activated its Emergency Operations Center numerous times for severe weather, wildfires, hazardous materials incidents and industrial accidents. In 2010, HCOHSEM conducted more than 200 outreach events and presentations.
