NEW APPOINTEE JOINS METRO BOARD TODAY
METRO’s Board of Directors has a new member – Lisa Gonzales Castañeda, P.E.
The Harris County appointee was sworn in during this morning’s board meeting. She replaces Trinidad Mendenhall Sosa, who retired recently.
Castañeda serves as deputy director of the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA). The Texas A&M graduate is a key member of a leadership team which defines the vision for HCTRA’s growth to ensure that regional, multi-modal mobility needs are addressed in a way that supports regional economic development, prioritizes resident and business safety and mobility, and strategically plans for system growth.
Castañeda, a Houston native, has experience in highway, bridge, traffic, drainage, utility relocation, multi-modal transportation system development, right-of-way acquisition and toll systems engineering.
Castañeda’s 21 years of professional experience gives her a unique understanding of the needs and issues faced by transportation and infrastructure agencies.
Projects in which Castañeda has been heavily involved include:
· Toll System Replacement – two years into a four-year project to replace and update the current roadside toll collection system
· Katy Managed Lanes – Houston’s first dynamic tolling system, which during its construction, required intense interagency coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), METRO, city of Houston and local small cities.
· Westpark Tollway - as project director, Castañeda lead team from concept to completion of the nation’s first all electronic facility.
The METRO Board, while welcoming Castañeda onboard, awarded Trinidad Mendenhall Sosa with a commendation for her four years of service to the board.
