Benjamin G. Parma, Sr., died peacefully at home on October 26, 2011. Ben was born on March 5, 1930 in Moulton, Texas to James Frank and Clara Parma. His family moved to Fayetteville, Texas where he graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1946. He attended St. Edward’s University in Austin and graduated from the University of Texas School of Pharmacy in 1950. Ben served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 during the Korean Conflict. In 1955, after the war, he came to the University of Texas Medical Branch Pharmacy where he was the Assistant Director of Pharmacy Services. On October 5, 1957, he married Patricia Boulard Garthar at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Galveston.
Ben was very active in church and pharmacy activities. He served as President of the Texas Hospital Pharmacy Association from 1962-1965 (now the Texas Society of Hospital System Pharmacists) and was also a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus Council 787 from 1955 till the present, and served as Grand Knight from 1964-1965. He was probably best known as Chairman of the Pool Committee and Hamburger Night for over 30 years, a position he gave up recently as his health faded. He was also a Lector and Extraordinary Minister at Sacred Heart Parish for over 30 years.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Pat), and his five children, Angela P. Garcia and husband, Daniel, of Clear Lake; Ben G. Parma, Jr., and wife, Juliet, of Mountainside, New Jersey; Andrew P. Parma and wife, Natasha of Pearland; George F. Parma and wife, Kathye, of Clear Lake; and Rita P. Hesse and husband, John, of Pearland. There are also 13 grandchildren who were especially dear to him; Christina , Monica, and Claire Garcia of Clear Lake; Emily Jean Parma of New York; Ben Parma, III, and Stephanie Parma of New Jersey; David, Kevin, and Elizabeth Hesse of Pearland; and Anne Marie and Matthew P. Parma of Pearland. He is also survived by his only brother, James F. Parma, Jr., and wife, Rose, of Schulenburg, Texas.
Ben’s family will receive visitors at Malloy & Son Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 28, 2011, followed by a Rosary led by Deacon John Pistone. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the celebration of the Mass of the Resurrection by Father John Paul Flajole, OFM officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

The family would especially like to thank his caregivers, Linda Speaker, Kathlyn Warnell, Landy Speaker, and Adriana Fields, whose care has made these last months more meaningful.
