Beaumont Civic Ballet will present the Nutcracker, bringing Southeast Texas its most joyous holiday gift for 40 years. The Nutcracker was first presented in Beaumont in 1971 and has continued to feature local children and adults. The story of the Nutcracker is set in 19th century Germany and opens at a Christmas party where the mysterious Dr. Drosselmyer gives little Clara a magical toy Nutcracker doll that takes her on an unforgettable journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. Young and old alike will see special effects, including a growing Christmas tree, the firing of a cannon, and pounds of snow falling on stage. "I had a dream to bring dance to a higher level than just an annual recital," says Marsha Woody Zummo, Artistic Director of the Beaumont Civic Ballet.
