Stanley George Thirsk, 90, of Galveston passed away November 2, 2011 at UTMB. Stanley, known as “Bill,” was born on August 11, 1921 in Winter Haven, Florida. He grew up in Florida and graduated from Orlando High School. After graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines working through World War II and traveling throughout the world. He later settled in Galveston and worked for Union Carbide in Texas City for 35 years retiring in 1985.
He is preceded in death by his son, George Thirsk, and his brother, John R. Thirsk. Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Anderson Thirsk; son, Bill Thirsk, and wife, Elsie, of Galveston; daughter, Anne LeMire, and husband, Don; grandsons, Dylan and Dalton LeMire, of League City; sister-in-law, Marian Anderson, of Houston and numerous nieces, nephews and friends,
A remembrance of Bill’s life will be held Saturday, November 12th, 2011, at his daughter’s home.
