Minor traffic accident occurs with Galveston ISD bus and motorcycle
EMS called to the scene for motorcycle passenger, no injuries reported among KIPP students,
all students dropped off at school following investigation
GALVESTON, Texas – A motorcycle struck a Galveston Independent School District bus this afternoon causing damage to both vehicles. At approximately 3:50 p.m., a motorcycle disregarded a stop-sign at the intersection of 26th Street and Avenue L and struck the back-end of the bus carrying 16 students, ranging from 3-12 years-old from KIPP Coastal Village. No injuries were reported by the students or bus driver.
The motorcycle driver was headed south on 26th Street when it drove through a stop-sign and collided with the back left quarter panel of the GISD bus, headed west on Ave. L. Both the Galveston ISD Police Department and the Galveston Police Department responded to the scene. Students boarded another bus and were transported home following an investigation that lasted approximately 45 minutes.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene and attended to the motorcycle driver, who sustained severe head injuries and was transported to John Sealy hospital. No charges have been filed in the accident at the time of the release.
