College sets auditions for children elves

PASADENA, Texas — San Jacinto College Central’s theatre and film department will hold open public auditions for children elves for the annual holiday production “Santa’s Christmas Magic: The Musical.”

Auditions will be held Thursday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m., in the Powell Arena Theatre on the Central Campus, located at 8060 Spencer Hwy. in Pasadena.

The auditions are open to anyone in the community and enrollment at the College is not required. “The older actors were cast several weeks ago, and have been working hard learning lines, songs and dances,” commented Dr. Jerry Ivins, artistic director for the show. “Now we hope to cast 50 local children who have one week of evenings open for rehearsals and who are ages 5 up to 15. We encourage all children who can sing, dance, tumble, act, or that just have an interest in theater to come out.  No theater experience is necessary.”

The children’s elf chorus will attend four rehearsals, and will appear in up to six scenes in the show. Most rehearsals are about two hours in length, until a few days before the opening of the show. Interested children should be conflict free for evenings during the rehearsals and performances.

Performances are set for Dec. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m., and on Dec. 4 and 11 at 2:30 p.m. A special matinee will be performed for area schools and daycares on Dec. 2 at 10 a.m.

“Santa’s Christmas Magic: The Musical” is a fantasy about a sinister plot to steal Santa’s magic. The cast includes male and female actors, singers and dancers from ages 5 to adult.
