Come Hear the Sounds of Jazz

The COM Jazz Combo directed by COM Music Professor Sparky Koerner and the COM Saxophone Ensemble directed by COM Music Professor Tim Kochen will present a concert on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 8 p.m., in the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall.

The Jazz Combo will perform “Una Mas” by Kenny Dorham, “Mox-Nix” by Art Farmer, “Red Snapper” by Bobby Shew, “Manha De Carnaval” by Luiz Bonfa and “Blues March” by Benny Golson.

The COM Saxophone Ensemble, directed by Kochen, was just reactivated this fall semester. Selections will include “Swingin” by Bob Mintzer, “Presto” by Johann Christian Bach, “Saxophobia” by Rudy Wiedoeft and “Tiger Rag” first recorded in 1917 by the Original Dixieland Jass Band.

“The evening will give the listener a wide variety of musical selections to enjoy,” Koerner said. “We hope people will come out and support live music.” The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Sparky Koerner at 409-933-8347.
