College of the Mainland Board of Trustees today appointed Dr. Amy Locklear as acting president, effective Nov. 16, 2011. Dr. Locklear currently serves as vice president for instruction and dean of general education. Prior to joining COM in 2008 as dean of general education, Dr. Locklear served as provost at Brevard Community College-Cocoa campus in Cocoa, Florida.
A motion was then made to authorize Board Chair Ralph Holm to negotiate a contract with Dr. Larry Durrence. Dr. Durrence previously served as COM interim president before Dr. Michael Elam was appointed president.
Today is COM President Dr. Michael Elam’s last day with the college after resigning Nov. 8 at a special BOT meeting. Dr. Elam had been COM president since April 2009.
Votes on each of the actions was unanimous. Trustee Clemon Prevost was absent.
