KEELS AND WHEELS AND THE CITY OF SEABROOK TEAM UP

TO BE A PART OF THE 62ND ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARADE PRESENTED BY H-E-B

in Downtown Houston on Thanksgiving Day

HOUSTON – The Keels and Wheels Concours d’ Elegance and the City of Seabrook are teaming up to participate in the upcoming 62nd Holiday Parade presented by H-E-B on Thanksgiving morning in downtown Houston.  In keeping with the “Classic Moments” parade theme, the City of Seabrook will support Keels and Wheels as the official vehicle sponsor of one of Houston’s long-standing holiday traditions.  The parade is broadcast throughout Texas and the surround region.  Keels and Wheels is one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious Classic Car and Vintage Wooden boat show that takes place each spring in Seabrook.

The annual Holiday Parade returns to the streets of Downtown Houston to kick-off the holiday season in the city.  The 2011 Parade showcases new floats, high-flying balloons, performances by celebrity guests, marching bands, cheerleaders and more.  The parade takes place at 9 a.m. on November 24 (Thanksgiving morning) near Minute Maid Park.

Nearly 400,000 spectators are expected to line nearly 20 city blocks in downtown to watch the parade, as they have since Houston’s first Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1949, when Santa arrived at Union Station and rode his sleigh to the downtown Foley’s.  Today, the annual Holiday Parade is produced by the Houston Festival Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization established in 1979, focused on multicultural education programs. Each year, the foundation publishes a Teacher's Curriculum Guide written in conjunction with the Houston International Festival. This guide features the country or region spotlighted by iFest. The book is distributed to more than 1,400 campuses in 50 school districts spanning seven counties including HISD, Harris County, Galveston and Fort Bend.

Highlighting the parade will be elaborate, Viareggio-style papier-mâché floats designed by Studio 3, including a Tom Turkey float, sponsored by H-E-B, featuring a musical performance by celebrity guests featuring Booboo Stewart who portrays “Seth Clearwater” in the Twilight Saga film series.  Stewart and his sister, Fivel, will sing a duet.   A Classic Moments float showcasing traditional storybook classics, along with a performance by the Houston Children’s Chorus representing this year’s theme. Returning to the parade is a float performance by the cast of Theatre Under the Stars’ “White Christmas,” and Mrs. Baird’s float featuring Bimbo and baked holiday treats.  Goya Foods’ 75th Anniversary Celebration float leads up to the much-anticipated arrival of Santa and his elves as they ring in the holiday season on board the Santa Claus and His Reindeer float.  Santa will be entertained by the tunes of musical guest Deborah Duncan.

Other parade entertainment includes Hip Hop artist Pit Boss, McDonald’s Ronald McDonald Shoe Car, the Salvation Army Giant Kettle and Harbor Lights Choir, a visit by Pancho Claus and the low-riders, among many other community groups.

Performing along the parade route include hundreds of Varsity Cheerleading and Dance Team All Americans from across the country, Bellville High School Brahmadoras, Apache Belles, Texans Cheerleaders, Houston Rockets Power Dancers, Willowridge Mighty Eagle Marching Band and Wings Drill Team, MacArthur High School Band and Drill Team, Tyler High School and Hightower High School bands.

Dancing in the skies will be gigantic, helium-filled balloons.  New for 2011 include a 55-foot Nutcracker, brought to you by Sunny 99.1 FM, Papa Smurf, Berenstain Bear, Frosty the Snowman and the Houston Chronicle Newspaper Retriever.

The 62nd Holiday Parade presented by H-E-B is free along the parade route.
