This year, the Parade Theme is “Love that Christmas Feeling” and we Hope Yule Join Us!
La Marque Parade Marshalls will include two of La Marque’s favorite citizens - Calvin “Cowboy” Jones and Lucille Monych.
Cowboy has been a resident of the Texas City-La Marque community since 1939. He is a 1949 graduate of the La Marque High School. After serving honorably in the U.S. Army was he was employed with the American Oil Refinery for many years followed-up with the eventual ownership of the Jones Electric Company. Cowboy served many years as a member and several high level board member positions with the La Marque Lions Club. In 1978 he was elected to serve as Lions Club International District Governor. He was the first chairman of the La Marque “Fair-on-the-Square” Committee which evolved into what is now La Marque’s annual event: Bayou Fest. He chaired this event over 20 times over the years. Currently, Cowboy is the Assistant Chair of the La Marque Parks Board. Parade Flyer
Ms. Monych has contributed greatly to the children of the La Marque community in her effort related to the “Blue Santa” program for the past 50 years. During each year (up through the Christmas season) Ms. Monych tirelessly coordinates with the U.S. Marine Corps “Toys for Tots Program” and numerous other civic and faith-based groups in acquiring new gifts (toys, etc) for children of low-income families. During Christmas week members of the La Marque police and fire departments distribute collected items to children (at their residence) selected by the La Marque Independent School District and city department. This program certainly has made the Christmas season a joyous period for hundreds of children residing in the La Marque community. Ms Monych certainly has contributed immeasurably toward making our community’s children happy at Christmas time.
The Parade will line up in front of La Marque High School on Vauthier Road at 5:00 p.m. and will start at 6:00 p.m. The Parade will travel on Vauthier, take a left at Cedar Drive and take a left again on Bayou Road and proceed to Walter Fiegel Park.
Come out and enjoy popcorn and hot chocolate sponsored by the La Marque Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to visit with children in the gazebo at Walter Fiegel Park after the parade.
