CLEAR HORIZONS EARLLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL STRIKES GOLD

League City -- The Texas Education Agency released the 2011 Gold Performance Acknowledgements for Texas schools and CCISD is proud to announce our Clear Horizons Early College High School (CHECHS) earned 12 of the 12 possible Gold Performance Acknowledgements for a school with grades 9-12.

Principal, Dr. Jennifer Morrow is thrilled her campus struck gold, “Congratulations to our students, parents, and staff on this spectacular achievement.” The Gold Performance Acknowledgment (GPA) system acknowledges districts and campuses for high performance on indicators other than those used to determine accountability ratings. Acknowledgment is given for high performance on:  

Advanced Course/Dual Enrollment Completion

Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate Results

Attendance Rate

College-Ready Graduates

Commended Performance: Reading/English Language Arts

Commended Performance: Mathematics

Commended Performance: Science

Commended Performance: Social Studies

Recommended High School Program/Distinguished Achievement Program

SAT/ACT Results (College Admissions Tests)

Ten Texas high schools earned this prestigious honor. They are listed below in alphabetical order by district:

1.    Clear Creek ISD - Clear Horizons ECHS
2.    Dallas ISD - School of Science and Engineering
3.    Dallas ISD - School for the Talented and Gifted
4.    Highland Park ISD - Highland Park HS
5.    Houston ISD - Debakey HS for Health Professions
6.    Houston ISD - Carnegie Vanguard HS
7.    Lovejoy ISD - Lovejoy HS
8.    Northside ISD - Health Careers HS
9.    South Texas ISD - The Science Academy of South Texas 
10.    Westlake Academy Charter School - Westlake Academy 

 

During the November 14, 2011 Board of Trustees Workshop, a program evaluation on CHECHS was presented. Superintendent Greg Smith, Ph. D. recommended that Clear Horizons Early College High School be acknowledged as one of seven CCISD high schools with high performing students and staff, and that CHECHS no longer be referred to as a pilot program.

The Superintendent also suggested the student lottery entry system be amended to weigh more heavily toward economically disadvantaged students and first generation college-going students.
