Heights Food Drive
Schools in Texas City ISD annually hold Food Drives for the community. Heights Elementary did their Food Drive right before Thanksgiving to benefit the Community Thanksgiving Feast. Texas Delta Lambda chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators honored the founders of their organization during Founders' Month by presenting the Texas City ISD Foundation for the Future with a donation for innovative learning tools. Ready, Set, TEACH! students competed at the Texas Association of Future Educators Regional Conference on November 17 in Houston. Ready, Set, TEACH! is one of Texas City High School's newest programs being offered this year in the Family and Consumer Science Department. This is also the first year TCHS students were able to compete in the Educational Leadership Fundamentals area. Destiny Anderson and Kayla Walker won Gold medals. Cassandra Gaylord and Jordon Hansley won Silver medals; and Tedra Garza won a Bronze medal. Gold and Silver medalists will advance to the State competition in San Antonio in February. Teacher Alexis Knape is proud of all of the students that competed in their first competition. Rotary poster winners 2011
The Rotary Club of Texas City annually sponsors a poster contest in conjunction with their spaghetti supper fundraiser in the fall. Blocker Middle School students received cash awards for their winning art. The theme this year was "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity." Edgar Windom won 1st Place, Parker Johns won 2nd Place and Yaritza Alvarez won 3rd Place. Ada Martin is their art teacher.
Hall of Honor 2011
The Texas City ISD Foundation for the Future inducted another four alumni into the Hall of Honor, which is a prestigious program recognizing outstanding Texas City ISD graduates. This is the sixth year for the Hall of Honor, in which four alumni from the district's high schools are selected for induction. The 2011 inductees are: Joe Hoover, Texas City High School Class of 1952; Clemon Prevost, Sr., Texas City High School Class of 1974; Carolyn Risinger, M.D., Texas City High School Class of 1975; and Pat Doyle, Texas City High School Class of 1982.
