Pearland Special Election
by Garrett Bryce
Monday, December 05, 2011

Pearland’s special election on Saturday to fill City Council Position 5 ended with the call for a runoff between candidates Greg Hill and Kevin Cole.

Hill received 626 votes, or 47.6 percent of the ballot, while Cole received 511 votes, equaling 38.86 percent of the votes cast.  Gary Bucek, a third candidate, received 178, or 13.54 percent of the vote.

With no candidates receiving more than 50 percent of the votes cast, Hill and Cole will compete again in a runoff election on January 14.  Early voting in the election will begin January 3.

Pearland City Council Position No. 5 is currently held by Ed Thompson, who is vacating the seat to seek election for Texas State Representative in District 29.  The winner of January’s special election will serve the remainder of Thompson’s term, which was to expire in May of 2013.
