La Marque ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Friday, December 09, 2011

The La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees on Thursday voted to cast the district's ballots in favor of re-electing David Moss to the Galveston Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.

Moss, who is a member of the Texas City Independent School District Board of Trustees, is one of five members of the board seeking re-election. Victor Pierson, Walt Syers, Emery Williams, II, and Gary Jones are also seeking re-election and Evelyn Timmins, Dan Brightwell and Clay Morrison were also nominated for election to the board.

Moss has received votes from Texas City ISD, the City of La Marque, as well as the City of Texas City. La Marque ISD carries 178 ballots in the race, based on its percentage of the county's tax levy. A total of 834 votes is needed to elect a member to the board.

The school board voted to deny a motion to reorganize the board of trustees leadership. Currently, Annie Burton serves as board president, while Travis Smith serves as vice president and Joe Cantu as secretary.

The board voted to approve the use of a Region IV Education Service Center Facilitator to create an instrument for use in the evaluation of Superintendent Ecomet Burley by the board for the 2010-2011 school year.

A separate comprehensive report on the remainder of the meeting will be available at a later date. Agenda
