The Santa Fe Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday voted unanimously to move the district’s board election date to the first Tuesday in November of even-numbered years, and increased the term of board members from three years to four years.
The change was one of two options the board considered, with the other being a move to holding elections on the second Saturday in May during odd-numbered years, as well as a change to four-year terms. No action was taken on that option.
The school board previously held elections annually in May.
The school board voted unanimously to cast the districts ballots in favor of re-electing Gary Jones to the Galveston County Appraisal District Board of Directors.
The district holds a total of 144 votes, based on its percentage of the county’s tax levy. Jones has also received votes from Hitchcock and Dickinson school districts, as well as Clear Creek Independent School District and the City of Friendswood, for a grand total of 839 votes. A total of 834 votes is needed to be elected to the board.
Other candidates for the board are Victor Pierson, David Moss, Emery Williams, II, Walt Syers, Evelyn Timmins, Dan Brightwell and Clay Morrison.
The school board voted unanimously to approve utilizing the competitive sealed proposal method to select a contractor for the replacement of the R. J. Wollam air conditioning piping.
