Galveston’s Blue Santa Program Bringing Ho-Ho-Hope to Kids
Help Make the Holidays Merry for Underprivileged Children and Families
Galveston, TX – The Galveston Police Department’s Blue Santa Program is spreading hope and joy to children this holiday season. Their annual toy and gift drive for underprivileged kids is currently underway. Officers are seeking monetary donations and gift cards from the community to make the holidays merry for hundreds of Island children and families.
“Last year Blue Santa donors and sponsors provided more than 4,000 toys and bikes to underprivileged children in Galveston. This year the need is even greater," stated Galveston Police Officer Joey Quiroga. “Island families are still affected by Ike in addition to the tough economic conditions. We need the community’s support to provide gifts to children who might otherwise receive little or nothing this Christmas," Quiroga added.
Donations will be used to purchase individual gifts for each child and family on the list. Galveston Citizens Police Academy alumni and community volunteers will wrap the gifts December 22 and 23. Officers will be out in the neighborhoods making special deliveries on Christmas Eve.
Children and families were nominated for this program by school administrators and social service agencies as well as Galveston Police officers and firefighters.
Donations to the Blue Santa Program are still being accepted. To make a child’s Christmas special please call Officer Quiroga at 409-256-0762.
