The Texas City Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to award a $274,173 bid to Thomas Bus for the purchase of three buses.
The buses will each carry 71 passengers. Thomas Bus submitted the lowest bid for the buses.
The school board voted to approve a resolution to levy property taxes against “goods-in-transit”. The measure was required to levy taxes on goods stored in public warehouses that would otherwise be exempt under state law. The 82nd Session of the Texas Legislature approved an exemption for goods-in-transit from local taxes unless action was taken by local entities to impose those taxes.
The school board voted to accept a $3,000 donation from Erin and Dan Piazza for the purchase of iPad tablets for the special education department.
The school board voted to accept the resignation of Athletic Director Tim Finn. Finn will remain with the district until June 30.
The school board voted to approve the hiring of a second grade teacher. The item was discussed during an executive session.
All items were approved, with exception of renewals, non-renewals and termination of contracts, which was not acted upon. All votes were unanimous with trustees Pam Apffel and Tom Prouty absent.
