HOUSTON --The Houston Airport System announces that George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) expect more than 2.1 million passengers during the 2011 holiday travel period, which continues through Monday, January 2.

 

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

In the 18-day travel period, IAH is expecting nearly 2 million passengers to travel through its five terminals. This year’s numbers are expected to be the same as 2010, with the upcoming busiest travel days projected to be:

  • Thursday, December 22
  • Friday, December 23

 

IAH Travel Tips:

 

  • Use fly2houston.com “Search For…” Tool
    • Navigating through the five-terminal airport can be overwhelming. Simply go to fly2houston.com and search for Dining, Shopping and Services at the click of a button.
  • Follow us on Twitter @iah for on-the-go travel tips and learn where to score great deals at restaurants and shops
  • Use Passenger Pick Up Waiting Lot
    •  Follow the purple signs to this free parking lot located off of Will Clayton Parkway to relax and avoid circling the airport while you wait for your party’s phone call to let you know they are ready to be picked up at baggage claim. For more information, visit fly2houston.com/IAHPickUpLot.
  • Holiday Entertainment
  • Keep up-to-date on the latest rules and regulations with the TSA including:  
    • What you can and cannot bring through the checkpoint
    • Children 12 years and under can now go through the checkpoint with their shoes on
    • Do not wrap gifts before you go through checkpoint
    • Pack any gifts that contain liquid such as snow globes in your checked luggage

William P. Hobby Airport (HOU)

This year’s numbers at Hobby Airport are up 3 percent with nearly 278,000 passengers expected in the 18-day travel period. At Hobby Airport, the busiest days are expected to be:

  • Thursday, December 22
  • Friday, December 23
  • Monday, December 26
  • Tuesday, December 27

Keep in mind that Hobby Airport is still under construction and will continue to be until late 2012. The roadway leading to the airport's ticketing level is closed and all traffic is currently being diverted into the parking garage. For more information, please visit fly2houston.com/ProjectHobby.

Hobby Airport Travel Tips:

  • Check www.fly2houston.com to see our Hobby Airport parking availability tool online - it shows when the Airport owned and operated garage and lots have parking availability or if they are full.
     
  • Use Passenger Pick Up Waiting Lot

  • Consider using SuperShuttle to eliminate parking at Hobby Airport
    • Parking at Hobby Airport is limited and may reach capacity before the end of this week due to the peak travel period. If you prefer to not park at the airport consider asking friends or family to drop you off at Hobby or use SuperShuttle, which will pick you up at home or work.
