News Release
Wednesday, December 21, 2011

A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 4250 West 34th Street about 3:35 p.m. on November 5 is in custody.

Artavious Deon Hollins (b/m, DOB: 11-19-74) is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Derrick Tyrone Williams, 40, of the above address, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene.  A photo of suspect Hollins is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Officer M. Chaney reported:

Mr. Williams and Hollins were arguing in the apartment complex courtyard when Hollins went into his apartment, retrieved a gun, and returned to the courtyard.  The two then continued their argument, at which time Hollins shot Williams one time.  He then fled the scene.

Hollins was arrested last Friday (Dec. 16) without incident.
