It’s Not Too Late to Donate to Galveston’s Blue Santa Program
Volunteer Elves Will Wrap Gifts Thursday and Friday
Galveston, Texas – It’s not too late to help make the holidays merry for hundreds of underprivileged children and families on the Island. The Galveston Police Department is still accepting new, unused toys and clothes, gift cards, and cash donations for their annual Blue Santa toy and gift drive. Officers will be out in neighborhoods making special deliveries tomorrow through Christmas Day.
Galveston Citizens Police Academy alumni and community volunteers will wrap presents tomorrow, Thursday, December 22 and Friday, December 23 at the Roof Garden, located at 2214 Strand in downtown Galveston. Donations of wrapping paper and supplies are also appreciated.
“Last year Blue Santa donors and sponsors provided more than 4,000 toys and bikes to underprivileged children in Galveston. This year the need is even greater," stated Galveston Police Officer Joey Quiroga. “Island families are still affected by Ike in addition to the tough economic conditions. We need the community’s support to provide gifts to children who might otherwise receive little or nothing this Christmas," Quiroga added.
Children and families were nominated for this program by school administrators and social service agencies as well as Galveston Police officers and firefighters. Donations from the community are matched to each child and family on the list.
Donations to the Blue Santa Program are still being accepted. To make a child’s Christmas special please call Officer Quiroga at 409-256-0762 or bring donations to the Roof Garden tomorrow and Friday.
