Thelma Ricks Jackson, 88, departed this life on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at her residence.
Thelma was born February 11, 1923, in Anahuac, TX. She was a graduate of Wheatley High School in Houston, TX. She also graduated from cosmetology school and worked as a beautician in Galveston for many years. She was a faithful member of Ave. L. Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board. She also worked as a private duty and school nurse.
She was a member of the 29th Street Neighborhood club, the Heroine of Jericho, and Court of Calantha, where she served as Grand Counselor. She also served in various other organizations.
She was preceded in death by her sister Asalee Ricks, brothers, Roy, Earl, and E.B. Ricks; daughter, Johnetta Stephney; and Samuel Reese, Earl Jackson Jr., and Kenneth P. Benefield.
She is survived by her brothers, Alfred and Thedo Ricks; daughter, Trena Reese, son and grandson, Anthony Jackson; grandson, Trey Reese, great grandson, Antonio Jackson; a host of very special nieces, nephews, wonder friends and neighbors who were right by her side until she was called home.
Visitation will begin at 9AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, followed by a life celebration at 11:00 AM at Avenue L Baptist Church with Pastor E.R. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
