NOTED AUTHOR TO BE SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE
Dr. Calvin Miller, a former faculty member of Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, will be the 2012 Scholar in Residence at Calder Baptist Church. The Scholar in Residence Lecture Series is an annual event and will be held January 8 through 11, 2012 at Calder Baptist Church, 1005 N. 11th Street in Beaumont. The public is invited and there is no charge. Dr. Miller is author of more than forty books, the most famous of which is a trilogy, “The Singer,” “The Song, “ and “The Finale.” He maintains an active schedule with writing, travel, and speaking engagements. Occasionally he teaches at Beeson although he is officially retired.
Theme for the series and the series will be: “Celtic Spirituality” and will begin Sunday, January 8, with “Two Characteristics of Thin Places”, at 9:15 AM, and defining the thin place, “Peniel, Jacob at Jabbock” at 10:30. Sunday Evening will explore “Who Were The Celts?” and “Five Unchanging Values of Celtic Spirituality.” The series will continue through Wednesday, January 11th. Evening sessions will be at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The sessions are forty-five minutes long. Topics include “Trinity Praying”, “Lorica Praying”, “Incorporating Those in Heaven in our Prayers”, “The Confession of St. Patrick”, and “The Power Verbs of Confession.” Dr. Miller’s book, “The Path of Celtic Prayer: An Ancient Way to Everyday Joy, IVP, 2007, “ will be available for purchase during the lectures. An evening meal will be served on Wednesday at 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM. Reservations are requested, but not required.
