News Release
Tuesday, January 03, 2012

A suspect wanted and charged in the death of a woman found at 14935 South Richmond Avenue about 12 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 31) is in custody.

Stephen Noah Dawkins (b/m, DOB: 9-30-89), turned himself in to the Harris County Sheriff's Office and is charged with capital murder in the 178th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Altovise M. Mahone, 27, of the above address.  Ms. Mahone suffered head wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A photo of suspect Dawkins is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Senior Police Officer M. Waters reported:

Ms. Mahone was found deceased in her apartment by family members who had not heard from her for several days.  A preliminary investigation determined Mahone had been killed late Thursday evening (Dec. 29).

Further investigation determined Dawkins fled in Mahone's vehicle, a red four-door, 2002 Chevrolet Impala and also stole other items from the apartment.

On Sunday (Jan. 1), Dawkins, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to authorities and remains in the Harris County jail.
