The Houston Fire Department and Solid Waste Management Department will remind citizens about the dangers of dried out Christmas trees with a demonstration.

WHEN: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: HFD Training Academy, 8030 Braniff off Telephone Rd. behind the administrative buildings.

DETAILS: The Fire Department encourages citizens to properly dispose of their Christmas Trees when they start dropping needles. A representative from Solid Waste Management Department will discuss the perfect outlet for these trees. HFD will also remind citizens and give safety tips for using space heaters and heating devices, as well as the importance of working smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and an escape plan.

As the temperature drops , the fire department urges citizens to be careful and follow some simple safety tips when using space heaters and other supplemental heating sources. Heating devices cause more than 100 fires in the City of Houston each year, resulting in numerous injuries and possible death.
