Pearland City Council on Monday voted to award a $519,211 contract to Lindsey Construction, Inc. for construction services associated with the State Highway 35 Mitigation Pond Project.
“During the design phase of State Highway 35, the Texas Department of Transportation and its designer, S&B Infrastructure, Ltd, recognized a need for drainage mitigation that had not been provided in the original planning for the Highway 35 project,” City Manager Bill Eisen said.
TxDOT requested that the city locate and provide drainage mitigation in order to avoid a delay of the project. The city, working with Brazoria Drainage District No. 4, found one site for a site on the north bank of Hickory Slough along McHard Road. A second site, owned by the city, was designated north of Clear Creek.
The contract with Lindsey Construction will be for site preparation and excavation for a detention pond at the Clear Creek site.
The city council voted to approve an election services agreement with Brazoria County. The contract is for the special runoff election for Council Position No. 5, which will be held on Saturday.
The city council voted to authorize the issuance of $4 million in unlimited tax refunding bonds by Brazoria County Municipal Utility District No. 6.
The issuance of the refunding bonds will refinance previous debt, issued with bonds in 2001 and 2002, at a lower interest rate, saving approximately $239,000 for the district.
The city council voted to reappoint David A.K. Smith to the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
The city council voted to appoint Terry W. Smith and William T. Trbula to the Parks Recreation and Beautification Board.
