REP. TAYLOR ANNOUNCES TEXAS ARMED SERVICES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Encourages Local Students To Apply
AUSTIN, TEXAS - Today, Rep. Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) announced the opening for applications to the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program. Taylor is encouraging interested students from Texas House District 24 to contact his office to apply for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP).
In 2009 the Texas Legislature created the TASSP to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in the Texas Guard, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, or to become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services. The Governor, Lt. Governor and each member of the Texas Legislature may nominate a single applicant to receive up to $10,000 per academic year for up to four years (out of the five years allowed for graduation) toward undergraduate education at any Texas university with an active ROTC program.
Rep. Taylor said, “This program is an excellent opportunity for young students to match their educational talent with their desire for public service. I’m encouraging all interested and qualified candidates to contact my office and apply for the scholarship program.”
To be eligible, a student must meet academic criteria including:
· Be on track to graduate high school in a Distinguished Achievement Program or International Baccalaureate program
· A GPA of 3.0 or higher
· Ranked in the top third of the graduating class
· SAT score of at least 1590 or ACT score of at least 23
Interested students may request an application by contacting Rep. Taylor's district office at (281) 338.0924. More information on the scholarship program can be found at www.texasarmedservicescholarships.com.
