Lester John Peterson, Jr.
Malloy & Son Funeral Home

Lester John Peterson, Jr.Lester John Peterson, Jr., 81, of Galveston, passed away Monday, January 9, 2012, at his residence.  Known as Pete to his family and Jay to the Galveston community, he was born December 16, 1930, to Elizabeth and Lester John Peterson, Sr., of Galveston.  He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston and attended Southwestern at Georgetown before leaving to enlist in the US Air Force.  Pete was an F-86 Saberjet fighter pilot during the Korean conflict, continuing his lifelong love of airplanes.  He married Joan D. Jay was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Peterson Moore.  He is survived by his best friend and the mother of his children, Joan Quinn; son, Tony Peterson and wife, Kressa; daughters, Cory Lawson and husband, Jon; and Gail Peterson and husband, Randy Whitworth; sister, Betty Ann Rawn and husband, Russell; grandchildren: Amanda Durdin and husband, Danny; Layla Peterson; Conner Peterson; Robert Lawson; Dana Lawson; Daniel Lawson; Charles Cody Tonjes; and Dustin Whitworth; great grandchildren, Cole Durdin and Gracie Durdin; and his business family: Mary Enriquez, Don and Toni Pharis, Mills Hogan, Michelle Johnson, Kenya Olsen, Dana Hartle, and Josie Rodriguez.

Jay’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Friday, January 14th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.  A memorial service will begin at 6:00 pm.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. L. Lee Grumbles, Antoinette, Carmen, Pam, Peggy, Robin, and Candace with Hospice Care Team for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Galveston Island Humane Society or to the Child Advocacy Center.
