The Board of Trustees of the Galveston Wharves, in a special meeting held today, voted to move forward with steps in the acquisition, development and operation of an intermodal transportation terminal adjacent to the Shearn Moody Plaza Parking Garage, including the execution of a purchase and sale agreement with 2418 Strand Corp., LLC.
The board's action approves the purchase of a surface parking lot at 2418 Strand, known as the "Brown parcel", according to Port Director Steve Cernak. The property is the proposed location of the Downtown Transportation Terminal.
The port had also recently submitted the highest bid to purchase the Shearn Moody Plaza garage, part of which was planned for use to provide access to the terminal that is part of the city's livable communities initiative.
"We're waiting for one document to be received from Mitchell Properties, and once we have that, we'll have the authority to sign the terms of the agremeent, which will start the process going," Cernak said.
The item was the only action item on the agenda. The board also met an executive session to discuss various items, without taking action. Board Member John Tindel was absent. Agenda
