The Houston Fire Department is offering ten students from the 2nd Houston Community College’s Women’s Firefighter Certification Class the chance to experience HFD hands-on today, January 18, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Members from the Houston Fire Department are also the instructors for this class. The HCC class is scheduled to graduate on January 27, 2012 from the HCC Fire Academy.
The students will be riding on HFD suppression units and will experience the types of calls HFD responds too, how these calls are handled and the professionalism and dedication of the members of the HFD. This opportunity will also give the students a one-on-one look at daily station life and a chance to learn valuable information about courage, commitment and compassion from experienced firefighters within the department.
The ten students are scheduled to participate in “ride-along” at the following stations:
