Port of Galveston Director Offered Florida Job
by Jim Guidry
Thursday, January 19, 2012

Port of Galveston Director Steve Cernak has confirmed to Guidry News Service that he has been offered the position of Chief Executive/Port Director for Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

“I have been offered the position and I am honored to be considered for it,” Cernak said.  “The county commissioner has made a recommendation to the county commission.”

The recommendation is subject to confirmation on January 31.

“It is a county-run port,” Cernak said.  “It is the second largest cruise port currently in the United States; and they do other things too.”

Cernak said the port is about to go into a growth period.

“I have been proud of my time in Galveston,” Cernak said.  “There has been a lot of progress made here over the past 10 years.  It has been a pleasure working with the staff and the board and the accomplishing of goals.  But, opportunity presents itself, Jim.”
