62 Lamar student-athletes named to conference honor roll
BEAUMONT, Texas – Sixty-two Lamar University student athletes were named to the 2011 Southland Conference Commissioner’s Academic Fall Honor Roll, the conference announced Thursday.
Among the 62 student-athletes are 16 who finished the semester with a 4.00 grade-point average. The fall honor roll includes student athletes who participated in men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
“We are very excited to have this many students named to the conference academic honor roll,” Interim Athletic Director Jason Henderson said. “It is a true testament to the work that our student-athletes put into their academics and the importance that our coaches and academic staff put on obtaining the ultimate goal of a college degree.
Football led the way with 21 student-athletes named to the honor roll, including three with a 4.0 GPA. Women’s soccer had 13 honorees, including three who had perfect GPAs. Men’s cross country, which won its sixth consecutive Southland Conference championship, saw 12 of its 13 student-athletes named to the honor roll, including five with a 4.00 GPA.
