ACC program needs volunteers for diagnostic scans
The Alvin Community College Diagnostic Cardiovascular Sonography Program is now offering free scans to the public to help students practice their skills.
Students will be performing adult and pediatric echocardiogram and carotid (neck) and abdominal aorta vascular scans until the end of the spring semester on May 5.
“The scans are done by the students with the instructors observing,” said Susan Butler, ACC administrative assistant.
Volunteers for the scans do not have to provide any documentation and the scans are not official or used for diagnosis.
Butler said instructors are encouraging parents to consider bringing their children ages 3 and up for pediatric scans.
Those wanting the abdominal vascular scan must go without food or drink for at least 6 hours prior to the test. All scans use sound waves and are non-invasive.
To take part in the testing, volunteers only have to call and make an appointment for their scan.
